What will happen during my motorcycle training?

Here we have outlined everything that you would expect whilst undertaking any motorcycle training with us.

All on-site training is done on our DVSA approved, purpose built manoeuvring area.

CBT

CBT Course Details

The CBT course usually lasts a full day however can take longer depending on how fast you learn. There are 5 elements to the course:

  • Introduction and safety equipment lesson (Element A)

  • Controls and Maintenance (Element B)

  • On-site Training (Element C)

  • On-road theory lesson (Element D)

  • On-road lesson (Element E)

You will move on from one element to the next when your trainer is satisfied you have understood the objectives of the session and  also shown practical skills to a safe basic level.

Once completing a minimum of 2 hours on the road, you will receive a DL196 certificate that will let you ride up to a 125cc motorcycle with L-plates.

 

This will be valid for 2 years, when this expires you will need to complete the course again unless you have gone on to pass your test.

Module 1 Test Details

You will take the module 1 test at an approved DVSA test centre in an off-road motorcycle manoeuvring area. 

 

The test will normally take 20 minutes and will include:

  • Wheeling the moped or motorcycle and using the stand.

  • Riding a slalom and figure of 8.

  • A slow ride in a straight line.

  • A U-Turn.

  • Cornering and a controlled stop.

  • An emergency stop.

  • A left or right hazard avoidance.

For the emergency stop and avoidance exercises, you must ride at a minimum speed of:

  • 19mph (30kph) on a moped.

  • 31mph (50kph) on a motorcycle.

Module 2 Test Details

The module 2 test normally takes about 40 minutes and includes:

  • An eyesight check.

  • 'Show me, tell me' vehicle safety questions.

  • Road riding.

  • 'Follow the signs for...', independent ride.

You must pass your module 1 test before you can take the module 2 test. 

You can book both tests at the same time, but if you don't pass the module 1 you must wait 3 working days before you can retake it.

You must bring your module 1 pass certificate to the module 2 test, plus all the documents you had to take to the module 1 test.
